For years now, I’ve wondered why so many Republicans have embraced the word RINO—a term popularized by Donald Trump and weaponized within the GOP.
RINO stands for “Republican In Name Only,” and some in the party now treat it as the ultimate insult. I see it thrown around constantly, usually by people who genuinely believe they’re helping the Republican Party.
They aren’t.
In fact, they’re hurting it.
The loudest voices using the word RINO are often people deep inside the Republican echo chamber—people who think anyone who isn’t all-in on Trump isn’t a “real” Republican. But this mindset is not only misguided, it’s destructive.
Here’s the truth few want to admit:
When you call a moderate Republican a “RINO,” you’re also insulting their voters.
AND THOSE VOTES MATTER!
Republicans need moderates, independents, suburban voters, and younger conservatives if they want to expand their base and build a winning coalition. Mocking and rejecting these voters—simply because they don’t worship Trump—is political suicide.
When I used to be a Republican, I explained this to MAGA supporters many times. I tried to walk them through how destructive the RINO-labeling culture really is. But rather than listen or debate, they simply mimicked Trump, attacked me personally, and dismissed anything that didn’t fit their narrative.
That behavior is exactly why so many “common sense Republicans” are walking away.
And frankly, I hope they keep it up.
The more MAGA pushes out decent, principled conservatives, the more people will join movements like the America Together Coalition and The Forward Party—movements focused on character, honesty, and solutions instead of blind loyalty.
I won’t go into detail about what MAGA should do differently.
They’ve made their choice—and their cowardice, their obsession with Trump, and their willingness to tear down America to protect a single man says all we need to know.
